    What's the story

Ahead of the grand premiere of the new The Lord of the Rings series on Amazon-prime-video'>Amazon Prime Video, makers have released the first teaser of the show.

Titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it will be set years before the famous LOTR trilogy.

The eight-episode series arrives on Prime Video on September 2, with a new episode dropping every Friday.

    Teaser

    What does the teaser show?

The one-minute-long teaser trailer begins with a child's voice saying, "Haven't you ever wondered what else is out there. There are wonders in our world beyond our wondering."

Soon, we find a young Galadriel on such a discovering journey, trying to climb a mountain with a dagger.

With glimpses of Middle Earth's Second Age, we're introduced to hobbits, elves, dwarves, as well as humans.

    Looking back

Show based on Tolkien's work will have new plotlines, characters

Earlier, the lavish first look of Amazon's magnum opus was revealed in a Vanity Fair feature.

Taking elements from JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth saga, showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne have created a new world set thousands of years before Peter Jackson's acclaimed trilogy.

Thus, some old characters would make an appearance (like Galadriel), alongside a slew of new ones (Halbrand, Disa, and Arondir).

    Quote

What did the showrunner say about the series?

The show will focus on the "forging of the rings," McKay told the publication.

"Rings for the elves, rings for dwarves, rings for men, and then the one ring Sauron used to deceive them all. It's the story of the creation of all those powers, where they came from, and what they did to each of those races," he added.

    Stakes

This is most expensive television series ever made

With an estimated budget of $1bn, The Rings of Power is touted to be the most expensive television series ever made.

And, thankfully, the visuals in the teaser are super satisfactory, doing justice to the pocket spend. We'll have to wait till September to find out if the story will be anywhere close.

Meanwhile, HBO's GoT prequel—House of the Dragon—is coming this year, too.
