    What's the story

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, acclaimed for their roles in 2023 biggies Barbie and Oppenheimer, are set to star in the new action-comedy, The Fall Guy.

The film is expected to kick off the summer movie season with a robust opening of over $30M in the North American circuit.

Despite not being predicted to surpass the actors' previous box-office successes, industry experts anticipate a significant impact.

    Film budget

'The Fall Guy' production and global premiere details

The Fall Guy was produced with a hefty budget of $130M, necessitating positive reviews and substantial international revenue for profitability.

The film has already premiered in 38 global markets, including Australia, Israel, and Central America, earning $8.4M.

This weekend will see its release in over 40 additional territories such as the UK, Germany, France, and Mexico.

It will be hitting Indian theaters this Friday, too.

    Movie synopsis

'The Fall Guy' plot and cast details

In The Fall Guy, Gosling portrays a retired stuntman who is enticed back into the industry to work on a big-budget movie directed by his former love interest, played by Blunt.

The plot intensifies when the film's star, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, mysteriously vanishes.

Directed by David Leitch of Bullet Train and Atomic Blonde fame, the cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Winston Duke, and Stephanie Hsu.

    Market challenges

'The Fall Guy' faces competition and domestic box office downturn

The Fall Guy faces stiff competition from Amazon MGM Studios's Challengers, which debuted last weekend with a $15M opening, and Sony and Screen Gems's horror film Tarot, expected to earn between $5M and $6M.

Additionally, Disney and LucasFilm will re-release Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in over 2,600 domestic theaters on Star Wars Day (Saturday).

The domestic box office has seen a more than 20% downturn due to factors like actors' strikes, writers' strikes, and COVID-related delays, too.
