Kareena Kapoor Khan's latest release, The Buckingham Murders, has opened to a disappointing start at the box office.
The film, directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Ektaa Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Kapoor Khan herself, is a crime thriller featuring the actor as a British-Indian detective named Jasmeet Bhamra.

This low opening collection makes it Kapoor Khan's weakest opener in the last 15 years.
Her previous film with a similar box office performance was Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, released in 2009.

Film business expert and producer Girish Johar discussed the film's performance in an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat.
He said, "It's a very urban and intelligent thriller and they are trying to widen the base by not only releasing it in the Hinglish version but they are also dubbing it can cater too a larger Hindi audience."
Despite this, Johar predicted a modest opening for the film.

The film had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival in 2023, where it received positive reviews.
However, it seems that the film's emotional and thrilling narrative has not resonated with Indian audiences.

Kapoor Khan's character inspired by 'Mare of Easttown'
In an interview, Kapoor Khan revealed that her character in The Buckingham Murders was inspired by Kate Winslet's role in the acclaimed series Mare of Easttown.
She said, "I've always admired Mare of Easttown, and when Hansal Mehta approached me with this role, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do."
Despite this intriguing inspiration, the film has struggled at the box office.
