'The Buckingham Murders' earns ₹75L on Day-5; half of 'Tumbbad'
The Buckingham Murders, a crime thriller starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, has collected ₹6.8 crore at the box office in five days since its release. The film, directed by Hansal Mehta, opened with a collection of ₹1.15 crore and earned ₹75 lakh on its fifth day, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. Despite positive reviews for Kapoor Khan's performance, the film's narrative failed to resonate with audiences.
Film's performance in theaters
The Buckingham Murders had 1,100 shows on Tuesday, with an overall occupancy of 11.15% for the Hindi version. The majority of viewers attended the night show. In Delhi/NCR, the film had 313 shows with an 11% occupancy rate, followed by Ahmedabad with 167 shows and a 6% occupancy rate, and Mumbai with 157 shows and a 13.25% occupancy rate.
This is Kapoor Khan's second release of 2024
The Buckingham Murders is Kapoor Khan's second big-screen release in 2024, following Crew. It is currently the lowest-grossing film of her career. However, Balaji Motion Pictures (Ektaa Kapoor's production company) reports that the film has earned ₹7.81 crore in its first four days of release.
'The Buckingham Murders' vs 'Tumbbad'
Despite facing no direct competition from new releases, The Buckingham Murders has been significantly impacted by the re-release of the 2018 folk horror thriller Tumbbad. On its fifth day, Tumbbad earned 50% more than The Buckingham Murders, collecting ₹1.5 crore. Its total collection now stands at ₹10.53 crore, just ₹3 crore shy of its original box office earnings.
Film's plot and Kapoor Khan's role
In The Buckingham Murders, Kapoor Khan portrays Jasmeet Bhamra aka Jass, a grieving police officer assigned to investigate a tricky case. The film also marks her production debut. Set in the UK, the story follows Sergeant Jass as she grapples with the loss of her young son Ekam (Mairaaj Kakkar), while working on the case of another missing boy, Ishpreet.
