    What's the story

The prime suspect in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing incident, Shariful Islam Shehzad, was recently identified in an identification parade by the Mumbai Police.

The parade was held at Arthur Road Jail where witnesses, including Khan's staff members Eliyamma Phillip and Junu, identified Shehzad.

This comes a week after Shehzad was remanded to judicial custody.

    Identification process

Parade conducted under strict supervision, suspect matched CCTV footage

The identification parade was conducted under the supervision of a tehsildar and five panchas.

Witnesses were asked to look at around 10 people who had similar physical features as Shehzad.

The Mumbai Police have said they have strong evidence connecting Shehzad to the crime, including CCTV footage and a positive facial recognition test.

    Evidence collection

Facial recognition test confirmed Shehzad's involvement in the crime

On January 31, the Mumbai Police had also conducted a facial recognition test on Shehzad. The results confirmed that he was the same person seen in the CCTV footage at Khan's residence.

"Arrested accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad's facial recognition tested positive...the person in the CCTV footage and Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad are confirmed to be the same person," Mumbai Police said.

    Arrest background

Shehzad's alleged motive and arrest details revealed

Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, reportedly broke into Khan's Bandra residence to rob him. However, when Khan confronted him, the situation turned violent and the actor was left with multiple injuries.

According to reports, Shehzad was trying to flee to his village but was captured near Hiranandani Estate in Thane.

A case has been registered under Sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
