Hailee Steinfeld joins Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler's next

    What's the story

Hailee Steinfeld, known for her role as Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Verse franchise, is reportedly set to star alongside Michael B. Jordan in an upcoming supernatural thriller.

The yet-untitled project—set to be directed by Ryan Coogler—is bankrolled by Warner Bros. Pictures and sparked a bidding war earlier this year.

Filming is slated to begin later this month in New Orleans with a star-studded cast that includes Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O'Connell.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The project is generating significant buzz, largely due to Coogler's impressive track record, which includes directing MCU blockbusters like Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Alongside Steinfeld and Jordan, another notable name reportedly associated with the project is Lindo, who was previously linked to the MCU's upcoming Blade reboot.

However, uncertainties persist regarding Lindo's involvement following multiple delays and rewrites.

Fans eagerly await further details about this universe.

    Film speculation

Plot details remain under tight wraps

The plot details of Coogler's forthcoming venture remain largely undisclosed.

The Hollywood Reporter, however, suggests a narrative set in the Jim Crow-era South (Jim Crow being a pejorative term for an African American), possibly incorporating elements of vampire mythology and Southern supernatural folklore.

There is also speculation about Jordan portraying "twin brothers" in the film.

These details, however, have not been confirmed by either Warner Bros. or director Coogler.

    New addition

Jayme Lawson will join Coogler's supernatural thriller

Jayme Lawson, who gained recognition for her role in 2022 The Batman, is also set to join the cast of Coogler's upcoming film.

Like Steinfeld's character, details about Lawson's role in the film are yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Coogler is not only directing this project but has also written the script.

The film is scheduled for release on March 7, 2025.

    Upcoming ventures

Meanwhile, Steinfeld has other big projects in pipeline

Steinfeld, known for essaying Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, reprised her role in last year's The Marvels.

Additionally, she starred in and served as an executive producer for the period comedy-drama Dickinson on Apple TV+.

She lends her voice to a leading role in the popular Netflix series Arcane, too.

Steinfeld is anticipated to return as Gwen Stacy in the upcoming installment of Sony Pictures Animation's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, currently in production.
