'RRR' review: Magnificent graphics, exemplary action sequences, a power-packed entertainer

    What's the story

SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (RRR) is finally here.

Weaponized with two superstars Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, this period film ticks every box of tasks it set itself up to do.

Be it emotions, action, bromance, or intense dance sequences, the film fills you up to the core.

These movies are what big screens are made for.

    Here's our review.

    Story

This is the basic plot summary

Set during the British rule, we get introduced to two alpha males who are unmatched in determination and strength.

While Komaram Bheem (Jr. NTR) is a tribal leader, Alluri Rama Raju (Charan) is a dedicated royal police officer.

The two develop a close friendship upon meeting in Delhi without knowing about their real identities and real purposes.

What will happen when this facade drops?

    Narrative

Computer graphics, action sequences take your breath away

Rajamouli makes sure that the audience comprehends the story entirely and gives us three separate introductions to set everything in place.

The first half builds things spectacularly, so much so that one would think the pre-interval scene was in fact the climax.

Coming from the acclaim of Baahubali, Rajamouli makes no mistake with the computer graphics and majestic action sequences.

    It's a thrilling experience.

    Comments

There's slight dip in speed in second half, but...

The first half of this over-three-hour movie is taut and filled with entertainment.

It is after the interval that the speed dips a little to build up for what is to come.

And, this dip is worth it.

We get one after the other hoot-worthy moments, leading to the cathartic climax as our muscle brothers take on the big bad wolf.

    Performances

Overall, it's a two-man show; others get minimal screen time

Other than the "heroes," Olivia Morris and Alia Bhatt get tiny roles as the love interests, where they hold their own.

Ajay Devgn has a meaty cameo set out for him.

But ultimately, it is a two-man show, and how they run it!

Jr. NTR and Charan live their characters and, having dubbed their voices for the Hindi version themselves, sound more authentic.

    Information

Verdict: Don't miss out on catching 'RRR' in theaters

Notably, this is a fictionalized story, so don't go looking for historical accuracy. Legendary music composer MM Keeravani is excellent with his musical numbers and making separate tunes in every language proves to be fulfilling for dubbed-version viewers. Verdict: RRR gets 4.5/5 stars.
