    What's the story

Rhea Kapoor called out a trade journalist for allegedly spreading hate speech against her and the team behind her latest production, Thank You For Coming, on Tuesday.

The movie in question features Bhumi Pednekar in the lead and is directed by Kapoor's husband, Karan Boolani.

Although she didn't disclose the journalist's identity, the producer accused them of promoting misogyny and inciting violence against the film's crew.

This incident closely follows Ektaa Kapoor's confrontation with trolls on X/Twitter on Monday.

    Details

'He spews misogynistic rhetoric, encourages violence against us...'

In an Instagram post, Kapoor referred to the journalist as an "obviously unstable" individual.

She mentioned that the journalist was posting dangerous hate speech against her and her co-producers, despite not having seen the film.

"Admitting that he hasn't seen the film, he's angered by our message—Women's rejection of shame. Stating that these stories have no place in 'Hindi cinema,' he spews misogynistic rhetoric and encourages violence against us," stated Kapoor.

    Kapoor questioned the industry's silence

Kapoor questioned the industry's silence on this issue and encouraged people to stop supporting such views.

"You can imagine my disappointment when I learn that this person actually has some impact on the way our industry feels. How are we okay with this? Not just okay, we're subscribing to it," remarked Kapoor.

Further, the producer stressed the significance of her film being seen and appreciated, even when facing opposition from individuals like the journalist in question.

    Response

Earlier, Ektaa Kapoor addressed backlash against 'TYFC'

In her fierce style, Ektaa Kapoor—who co-produced TYFC under Balaji Telefilms—took to X to address the backlash against the film.

She first directed her response toward a journalist who had labeled the film as "disappointing."

Ektaa didn't stop there. She also engaged with several social media users who criticized her for allegedly "spoiling the mindset of people."

    About the film

Here's more about the film, 'Thank You For Coming'

TYFC is a coming-of-age sex-comedy centered around Kanika Kapoor (played by Pednekar), a single woman in her 30s seeking true love and pleasure.

The film aims to challenge shame and past traumas and encourages embracing oneself as they are.

Written by Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh, and directed by Boolani, the movie also features Shehnaaz Gill, Kusha Kapila, Dolly Singh, and Shibani Bedi in key roles.

    Projects

Meanwhile, a quick look at Kapoor's previous productions

TYFC is Kapoor's third venture as a film producer.

Her previous productions include Aisha, featuring Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Abhay Deol, and Veere Di Wedding, which boasted an ensemble cast including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker, and Shikha Talsania.

Notably, both of these films focused on women's stories and, in some instances, addressed their sexual experiences.
