    What's the story

A new comedy-drama starring Akshay Kumar is gearing up for its release!

On Saturday, the creators of the much-anticipated Khel Khel Mein officially announced the film's release date: September 6.

The project—which has been in buzz since last year—boasts an ensemble cast featuring Kumar alongside Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal.

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, this upcoming film promises to be an entertaining ride for audiences.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The project is bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Ashwin Varde.

Notably, this film marks a long-awaited on-screen reunion between Kumar and Khan after a staggering 16 years since their last collaboration in the cult comedy drama Heyy Babyy.

Furthermore, anticipation is running high as the film marks Khan's return to comedy after a 13-year hiatus.

Notably, the release date coincides with Kumar's birthday week (his birthday is on September 9).

    Plot & production

'Khel Khel Mein' revolves around a dinner gathering of friends

Khel Khel Mein reportedly revolves around a dinner gathering of friends that takes an unexpected twist as secrets are revealed.

The film's production, began in October last year, and wrapped up in March.

The creators confirmed the completion with a post stating, "That's a wrap! Filming for #KhelKhelMein starring #AkshayKumar #TaapseePannu #VaaniKapoor #AmmyVirk #AdityaSeal #PragyaJaiswal & #FardeenKhan in the lead has concluded. Brace yourself for an exhilarating mix of laughter and drama, (sic)."

    Adaptation

Is it an adaptation of 'Perfect Strangers'?

Per reports, Khel Khel Mein is an official adaptation of the 2016 Italian comedy thriller Perfect Strangers.

The story unfolds when seven close friends convene for a dinner party.

During the meal, Eva—a relationship therapist—proposes a provocative idea: that many couples would separate if they saw the messages on each other's phones.

Intrigued, the friends agree, albeit reluctantly, to play a game.

Initially harmless, the game takes a surprising turn as the calls and messages gradually reveal more compromising truths.

    Future films

Meanwhile, Kumar has a packed schedule with several other films

In addition to Khel Khel Mein, Kumar has a packed schedule with several other films.

He is currently working on Welcome To The Jungle, set to premiere during Christmas, featuring a star-studded cast.

Kumar will also star in Sarfira, a film about startups and aviation, releasing on July 12, 2024. Furthermore, he is part of the upcoming Housefull 5.

The actor recently graced the screen with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which failed to meet expectations.
