    What's the story

Red, White & Royal Blue star Taylor Zakhar Perez has expressed his desire for the hit LGBTQ romantic comedy to expand into a trilogy.

The 32-year-old actor shared his thoughts on the red carpet at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15 (Monday morning IST).

A sequel to the film, which also features Nicholas Galitzine, is currently in development by Amazon MGM Studios.

    Sequel hopes

Perez talks about potential sequel and trilogy

When asked if he anticipated a sequel during the filming of Red, White & Royal Blue, Perez told Variety, "I think I hoped."

He further expressed his wish for the film to become a trilogy, saying, "I hope that there's three of them. I think there could be a nice trilogy."

The actor also commented on the possibility of the film becoming a musical, saying, "That would be fun! As long as its funny. We need a very funny musical."

    Sequel development

'Red, White & Royal Blue' sequel in the works

Amazon MGM Studios announced on May 10 that a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue is in the works.

The film's director and co-writer, Matthew Lopez, is teaming up with Casey McQuiston, the author of the 2019 source material, to write an all-new screenplay for the sequel.

The first part was released in July 2023 and was a hit and received critical acclaim for its representation of queer romance.

It's streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
