After 'Mausam's failure, will Pankaj Kapur direct again
What's the story
Renowned actor Pankaj Kapur recently spoke to Bollywood Hungama about his recent projects, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack and Binny And Family.
The actor also shared his thoughts on promoting multiple projects simultaneously, as well as his plans to return to direction.
While IC 814 is out on Netflix, Binny and Family will be released on September 20.
Directorial aspirations
Kapur expressed interest in directing again
Kapur, who directed Shahid Kapoor in Mausam, expressed an interest in directing again.
"If there's an opportunity, I'd do it. I have scripts but I can't be struggling and going from one producer's office to another. "
"Having said that, if there's an opportunity, I'd love to direct as I love direction. I still love the work I did though I have a lot to learn from the experience."
To recall, Mausam delivered an underwhelming performance at the box office.
Project selection
'I immediately came on board': Kapur on 'Binny And Family'
Kapur revealed his project selection process, stating that he only accepts or declines a project after thoroughly reading the script.
He expressed his immediate fondness for Binny And Family's story, emphasizing its unique focus on family values in an era dominated by technology.
"It's been ages since anyone has made a film on this topic," he said.
"I immediately came on board and told the director that I had given my nod the day he narrated the script to me."
Co-star admiration
Kapur praised co-star Anjini Dhawan's confidence on set
Kapur also praised his co-star, newcomer Anjini Dhawan, for her confidence and knowledge about filmmaking.
He stated, "She was very confident from day 1. She knew a lot more than most youngsters of her age would."
"Hence, it wasn't uncomfortable for her and I gathered that the moment I met her."
Dhawan is Varun Dhawan's niece and hails from a film family.
Industry insights
The potential of family-oriented films in theaters
Kapur also shared his insights on the potential of family-oriented films in today's market.
He recalled how directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee had previously found success with similar themes.
"Directors and producers assume that such a subject is apt for a direct release on OTT."
"They don't realize that if such films are released in cinemas and if they succeed, the impact would be something else."
