    What's the story

Durgesh Kumar, the actor known for Panchayat and Laapataa Ladies, recently disclosed that he hasn't been approached for an audition by any major production house in over a year.

Despite his viral meme-worthy dialogue "Dekh raha hai Binod" from Panchayat Season 2 and a prominent role in Season 3, the actor says he still struggles to find work.

In a recent conversation with the Times of India, he opened up about his ongoing struggles in the industry.

    Career challenges

Kumar's struggle persists despite industry recognition

Kumar, who has spent 25 years in the industry, said, "People see the success of Panchayat, but the reality is that even after 12 years of work, it's a struggle."

"In the last 1.5 years, I haven't received an audition call from major production houses."

"I work with smaller producers who recognize my talent... I continue to audition and get selected for some roles, but it's unpredictable."

    Lack of recognition

Kumar's work is often overlooked by critics

Despite the critical acclaim and awards he has received, Kumar believes his contributions go unnoticed.

"It's strange. The projects have won awards, but critics rarely mention my name. Despite working in the industry for 25 years, I don't get the credit I deserve," he said.

"However, I'm happy that the audience appreciates my work."

    Career progression

Kumar's journey from NSD to successful roles

A National School of Drama (NSD) graduate, Kumar found his breakthrough in 2014 with Imtiaz Ali's Highway.

He went on to feature in films such as Sultan, Sanju, Dhadak, and Bhakshak.

His character in Panchayat started as a supporting one before he became a main cast member.

Despite all this, he still struggles to find consistent work.
