    What's the story

Filmmaker N Lingusamy, known for movies such as Aanandham and Anjaan, has revealed his plans to work on a two-part film based on Mahabharata, primarily focusing on Arjuna and Abhimanyu.

The project, to be produced with a staggering budget of ₹700cr, will be a major milestone in Lingusamy's career after his last directorial effort in the 2022 bilingual film The Warriorr.

    Film focus

Lingusamy's 'Mahabharata' will feature state-of-the-art technology

In a conversation with Tamil publication Vikatan, Lingusamy teased his project.

"I have signed a two-film project that will focus on the characters of Arjuna and Abhimanyu. With ₹700cr invested in the project, I will be given all the necessary state-of-the-art technology," Times Now quoted him as saying.

"Whenever we think of Mahabharata, we [are] reminded about BR Chopra's work. Now I am a part of such a project. The official announcement of the project will be made soon."

    Historical significance

    Lingusamy's 'Mahabharata' to break a 4-decade-long hiatus

The official announcement of Lingusamy's Mahabharata is highly awaited as it will reportedly be the first Tamil film based on the epic in over 40 years.

The last Tamil film to delve into the Mahabharata was Karnan, which was released in 1964.

Aamir Khan and SS Rajamouli have also spoken about their ardent dream of adapting Mahabharata but the project's scale has proven to be a major challenge.
