    What's the story

    The wait is almost over.

Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the globally successful Hollywood film The Lion King, is set to premiere on December 20, with the first clip debuting on early Tuesday morning.

The narrative will explore the early lives of characters Mufasa and Scar, with actors Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. taking on these roles.

The news of the trailer release was shared on Sunday via Good Morning America, which also unveiled an official snapshot of the film.

The image depicts a young lion cub mid-leap from a tree, presumably representing a youthful Mufasa.

This Disney-affiliated morning program will offer the public their first look at scenes from this highly anticipated movie.

Previously, some clips were shown at CinemaCon 2024 but were exclusive to attendees.

    Director's vision

The direction of 'Mufasa: The Lion King'

Award-winning director Barry Jenkins is behind the film.

Known for his acclaimed work on Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, and The Underground Railroad, Jenkins has expressed a personal connection to the story.

Speaking with Variety, he said, "I grew up with these characters, they mean so much to me."

He added that he feels "no pressure" but wants to "do a good job."

Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are also a part of the voice cast.

    Jenkins's thoughts

Here's how Jenkins views the film

He further added, "I think the work that Jeff Nathanson, the writer, did and going back into really helping children and anyone who ever loved this property understand what it takes."

"Kings aren't just born, they aren't just made. They have to become who they are through a series of events that a lot of people can relate to. So, in that standpoint, it fits very well with everything else I've done."
