    What's the story

Acclaimed filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has finally confirmed plans for a sequel to his 2008 hit movie, Fashion.

Earlier, the news was reported by Bollywood Hungama, which suggested that the sequel could take the form of a film or a web series.

During an interview marking the 25th anniversary of his debut film Trishakti, Bhandarkar confirmed the report and discussed his vision for the sequel.

    Sequel potential

Bhandarkar believes 'Fashion' has potential for a sequel

Bhandarkar expressed his belief in the potential of Fashion for a sequel, considering the significant changes in the fashion industry today.

He said, "I feel Fashion has all the potential for a sequel. Today, the world of fashion has changed. As a filmmaker, I feel I have a lot of material and hence, it can be turned into a show, spanning a couple of seasons."

"But it also is apt for a film. Hence, nothing has been decided yet."

    New narrative

'Fashion 2' to explore disappearance of supermodels, rise of influencers

Bhandarkar highlighted the impact of social media on the fashion industry and how Bollywood celebrities have replaced supermodels as showstoppers.

"There was a time when we used to hear of supermodels. But in the last few years, can you recall the name of any supermodel?," he questioned, adding, "Bollywood celebs have taken over and have become showstoppers."

"This is what I want to ask through Fashion 2—where have these supermodels disappeared? I want to focus on these aspects."

    Original film

Remember 'Fashion' won National Awards for Chopra, Ranaut?

The original Fashion starred Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Kangana Ranaut, who won National Awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.

The film told the story of Meghna Mathur (Chopra Jonas), a small-town girl who became a supermodel and faced life's challenges.

Ranaut played Shonali Gujral, a top model who experienced a downfall.

The film was lauded for its writing, execution, performances, and music by Salim-Sulaiman.
