    What's the story

In protest against actor Dileep's reinstatement in Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), several core members of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) have quit the film body.

Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambeesan, Geethu Mohandas and the actor who was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted have tendered their resignations.

Dileep was ousted from AMMA after his name cropped up in the abduction and sexual assault case.

    Backstory

Dileep is the eighth accused in the aforementioned case

The unfortunate incident took place in February last year when a gang intercepted the popular Malayalam heroine's car on National Highway 544, entered the vehicle and abused her sexually.

The Police later found Dileep to be involved in the matter and named him as an accused.

Notably, AMMA's decision to take him back comes a day after superstar Mohanlal was appointed its new president.

    Quote

Here's what the survivor actor said in her statement

"An organization that I am a part of tried to protect the man who has been accused of the crime. Realizing that there is no purpose in being a part of such an organization, I hereby resign," she said.

    Attack

Rima and Remya too lambasted AMMA for its decision

In an interview to a news channel, Rima said that she is resigning with the hope that the next generation will be able to courageously continue with full self-respect and without making any compromises.

"My resignation is to protest the highly deceitful and inhuman stance against our colleague who has suffered a gruesome assault," wrote Remya in her official statement.

    Context

Geethu regrets not quitting AMMA sooner

In a note to AMMA, Geethu wrote that the film body needs people who follow the decision of the leadership without any questioning.

She said the voices are getting drowned at AMMA and this should not be the case anymore.

"I stand with my friend and will fight AMMA's such irresponsible actions from outside. I should have resigned long back," she concluded.
