#MeToo: Miffed with 'due process', Subhash Ghai accuser withdraws case

    What's the story

Model-actress Kate Sharma, who had leveled charges of sexual misconduct on filmmaker Subhash Ghai, has withdrawn her complaint as she was upset with the way the case was handled.

In the #MeToo storm, Kate was one of the few women who named the 'showman' in an attempt to bring to attention to his predatory behavior.

She informed DN Nagar police station through a note.

    Allegations

Ghai had groped Kate, tried to kiss her too

Kate alleged Ghai asked her for a massage, groped and forcefully tried to kiss her.

On October 12, she had filed a written complaint in the matter and the police approached her to record her statement on October 25.

Back then, she had sought more time. But now Kate has said the entire #MeToo movement has turned into a joke.

    Reasons

Nothing has happened, no one has been arrested: Kate

Speaking to Mid-Day, about her decision, Kate said she never told her family about what happened, and when they saw her on television, they were disturbed.

She added she wanted to take care of her ailing mother 'instead of roaming here and there to get justice for whatever has happened'.

Cops were busy in filing FIRs but no one was arrested, she said.

    Quote

Kate asks how many people have been arrested

"Tell me, how many people have been arrested? Cops asked me if I wanted to register an FIR, but I don't see any reason for moving ahead to get justice as whatever I had to say is in the public domain," she said.

    Police's statement

Police officer confirms Kate has withdrawn the complaint

Confirming that Kate had withdrawn the complaint, a senior Mumbai police officer said they approached her to record her statement, again, but she chose to bury the case.

"She informed us in a written note that she wants to withdraw her case as her mother is unwell and she wants to take care of her family," the officer added.

    Information

There have been several accusations against Ghai

Notably, Kate is not the only one to have accused Ghai of harassment. A journalist, who chose to stay anonymous, alleged Ghai of drugging and raping her. She alleged he spiked her drink and violated her, years ago.

    The journalist's account is disturbing

Notably, Ghai had denied the charges
