    What's the story

Filmmaker Karan Johar has come out in defense of the actors in his latest production, Nadaaniyan after they were brutally reviewed and trolled.

At the trailer launch of actor Gippy Grewal's Punjabi film Akaal, Johar, who is presenting the Hindi version under his Dharma Productions, addressed the criticism debutant Ibrahim Ali Khan and newcomer Khushi Kapoor faced.

    Reaction

Johar's response to trolls and critics

Johar first quoted lines from Rajesh Khanna's iconic song, "Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna," to express his sentiments.

The producer added he hated "nameless" trolls who vent their frustrations on actors. Further, he slammed certain critics for being "too harsh and violent" in their reviews.

Johar said, "Mera rishta kabhi critics ke saath badalta nahi, on the basis of unhone kya likha hai."

    Commentary

Johar revealed he has problems with critics getting harsh, personal

Johar further elaborated in Hindi, "I salute all critics; I respect them all and everyone knows this. But there are few people...I read some articles, reading those kinds of stories hurt me."

"Because the person you're writing about they're also someone's child; if their parents read your article, it would hurt them."

"I read a line that said- 'I want to kick this film.' When you write this way, I have problems with these people."

    Condemnation

Johar condemned critics for violent words

Johar further emphasized that the aggressive language used by some critics is not a reflection of the film but of them.

He said, "You should have a compassionate, competitive side. Nobody wants to be kicked, because is an act of violence."

"It is physical violence. When you're not allowed violence in the real world, even words are equally violent, you should be condemned for being violent."
