    What's the story

We were already hyped about Jordan Peele's horror movie 'Us', which is releasing in March 2019.

Peele made his mark with Get Out, which explored racial themes through sci-fi horror, winning an Oscar for best original screenplay.

Now the director has given us a Christmas gift through the spooky first trailer of 'Us' that promises new monsters and even more horror.

    Here, we decode.

    New direction

Peele twisted the haunted house angle, made it scarier

According to reports, Peele prepared the cast for the film by giving them a list of movies to watch like Stanley Kubrick's Jack Nicholson-starrer The Shining, The Babadook, Funny Games, and Let the Right One In.

These films have a common theme of a haunted house, or an invading evil force.

However, Peele twisted the haunted house story and gave it a scarier form.

    Information

'Black Panther' actors Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke reunite for 'Us'

The cast of the much-touted movie includes Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o, starring alongside Winston Duke, her Black Panther co-star. The film also stars Emmy Award winner Elisabeth Moss from The Handmaid's Tale, the acclaimed television series. It also stars Evan Alex and Shahadi Wright-Joseph.

    Trailer details

Trailer shows a vacation gone wrong, when strangers visit

The trailer starts with a happy family headed to the beach to unwind. The parents and two children meet up with their friends, and things appear to go well.

However, the son gets separated and sees a spooky figure with blood dripping from his hands.

Soon, strangers show up in their driveway. Chaos ensues when they are revealed to be doppelgängers with evil intentions

    Peele's opinion

'We are our worst enemies', trailer shows

While Peele had emphasized his upcoming movie is not about race, it was important to him to have a black family at the center.

He believes that horror is the best way to reach deeper truths of our society, and to face our collective fears.

Therefore, Us will attempt to explore another facet of society, an undeniable truth that 'we are our worst enemies'.

    Opinion

'New horror mythology and a new monster' from Peele

Peele is mixing known horror tropes of home invasion, haunted house, doppelgängers to make his own brand of horror.

As the doppelgängers ominously follow, look, think like the family they are victimizing, it becomes more chilling and Peele has already made scissors the scariest prop of 2019.

We cannot wait to see what the new master of horror has in store for us.
