    What's the story

Amid rumors of a strained marriage between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, an old video featuring Jaya Bachchan has emerged, shedding light on her relationship with her daughter-in-law.

The video, which has gone viral, features Jaya in a conversation with fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

In the clip, Jaya discusses her bond with Aishwarya, emphasizing that she sees her as a "daughter-in-law" rather than a "daughter."

    Video details

Jaya explains the difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law

In the viral video, Jaya explains the distinction between a daughter and a daughter-in-law.

She says, "There is a difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law...I mean, I don't know why, but you don't feel you don't need to respect your parents. As a daughter, you take your parents for granted. With your in-laws, you can't do that."

She further elaborates, sharing her own experience: "And later on, things change—because today, I feel more a Bachchan than a Bhaduri."

    Parenting approach

'Why should I be strict with her [Rai Bachchan]?': Jaya

The video also gives a glimpse into actor-turned-politician Jaya's approach to parenting. She confesses to being "very strict" with her children, Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan-Nanda.

However, when queried if she extends the same strictness to her daughter-in-law Rai Bachchan, she replies, "Strict? She's not my daughter! She's my daughter-in-law. Why should I be strict with her? I'm sure her mother has done that for her."

    Online response

Social media reacts to Jaya's comments

The video has attracted considerable attention. Many have responded positively to Jaya's remarks.

One user wrote, "Surprised to see Jaya making total sense here," while another commented, "What she's saying isn't wrong."

Discussing Rai Bachchan and Jaya's relationship, Abhishek once shared on Koffee With Karan, "Maa and Aishwarya are very close...When a woman first joins her husband's family, she can feel a bit out of place. I believe the only person who can genuinely fill that gap is her mother-in-law."

    Relationship rumors

Abhishek-Aishwarya's relationship is under scrutiny following recent events

Abhishek and Rai Bachchan, who tied the knot in 2007 and have a daughter, Aaradhya, born in 2011, have typically kept their personal life private.

However, their separate appearances at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding in Mumbai in July sparked rumors about their relationship.

The speculation intensified when Abhishek liked an Instagram post discussing divorce.

The couple and their family have not yet addressed these rumors.
