    What's the story

The re-release of Christopher Nolan's cinematic masterpiece last Friday (February 7), Interstellar, has crossed a major milestone at the Indian box office.

By the end of its first weekend since re-release, the film's total collection has crossed a significant ₹50 crore when combined with its original release earnings.

Despite facing competition from other films, Interstellar stood its ground as the second-best performer of the week.

Here's the breakdown of the collection.

    Weekend collection

Breakdown of 'Interstellar' re-release weekend earnings

On Sunday alone, the Matthew McConaughey-starrer film raked in ₹3.85 crore at the domestic box office, taking its total collection to ₹10.5 crore gross, per Sacnilk.

It had a strong start with ₹2.85 crore net on the first day and approximately ₹3.85 crore net on Saturday.

Interstellar's original release in 2014 earned ₹41 crore gross in India, contributing to the current over ₹50 crore gross with its re-release collection added.

    Record-breaking performance

'Interstellar' outperformed other re-releases in India

Interstellar has established a new benchmark in the re-release trend, beating other top re-releases in India.

For example, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani collected ₹1.15 crore net on its re-release opening day, while Tumbbad earned ₹1.5 crore.

But Interstellar opened with a whopping ₹2.85 crore on its re-release day, beating both these films.

    Box office competition

'Interstellar' now competes with 'Titanic' for re-release record

As of now, Interstellar is competing with James Cameron's Titanic for the best re-release run at the Indian box office. The Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet-starrer drama earned ₹20.5 crore in its lifetime re-release in India.

If Interstellar continues its current momentum, it could break that record.

The film's limited seven-day re-release is expected to take its total collection to around ₹15 crore, which is an impressive feat for a Hollywood re-release in India.
