#ComicBytes: Interesting facts about the Avengers, Earth's mightiest heroes

    What's the story

Avengers are the first line of defense against the most powerful threats in the Marvel Universe.

With their own four movies and the entire MCU revolving around them, we all know a lot about the Earth's mightiest heroes.

However, there are few other details that even the most dedicated fans of Marvel films and comics don't know.

    Presenting some of them.

    Creation

The accidental Justice League-inspired creation of the Avengers

When Daredevil #1 was late for its scheduled publication date, Stan Lee proposed the idea of teaming-up existing Marvel characters to form a group like DC's Justice League of America, as that won't require any origin stories and would give Marvel something to publish on time.

In a short period, Lee and Jack Kirby came up with the Avengers and made them fight Loki.

    Fact

Captain America is not the First Avenger in the comics

MCU portrayed Captain America as a founding member of the team.

But, in comics, Cap was not an Avenger until the fourth issue of The Avengers comic series.

In fact, the OG Avengers (barring a few members) were the ones who found Steve in the ocean.

He was granted the status of a 'Founding Member' in place of the Hulk, who had recently resigned.

    Wasp

The Wasp named the team and sometimes led it too

The original roster of the Avengers had Iron Man, the Wasp, the Hulk, Thor, and Ant-Man.

But who came up with the name? Definitely not Nick Fury!

Although the Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) made her MCU debut quite recently, she was actually the one who named the team.

Janet is also known as one of the best leaders of the original Avengers.

    Mansion

The Avengers Mansion was designed after a real place

Avengers have their own mansion in comics, which has definitely inspired the creation of the Avengers headquarters in MCU.

This mansion, which is located at 890 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York City in the Marvel comics, was actually modeled after the Henry Clay Frick House.

Also known as Frick Museum, this place exists in real life at 1 East 70th Street, Fifth Avenue, Manhattan.

    Name troubles

The Avengers: A team of superheroes or British secret agents?

There was a popular British espionage thriller TV series called The Avengers, which debuted around three years before Marvel's team.

This initially caused a lot of problems.

For example, the Marvel comic series had to re-titled Avengers Assemble in the UK several times.

The comics based on the TV series were also re-titled Steed and Peel (or similar variants) in North America.
