Zaira Wasim's sly dig at PM Modi has "mango" reference

    What's the story

Prime Minister Narendra Modi isn't big on interviews. The few ones which he has given are to people who aren't critical of his policies.

Last year, he sat for one such conversation with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar.

Now, former actress Zaira Wasim has taken a dig at him using the same interview.

She tweeted, "The question should've been "Aapko raat ko sukoon ki neend kaise aajati hai". NOT "Aap aam kaise khate hai" (sic)."

    Background

When PM Modi sought re-election, Akshay interviewed him

Just before 2019 polls, Akshay and PM Modi had a free-wheeling conversation, which was refreshing but felt more like a PR exercise.

Throughout the course of the interview, the actor asked questions about PM Modi's childhood, his political journey, and his relationship with opposition leaders.

Surprising everyone (and perhaps himself), Akshay also questioned if PM Modi "liked" eating mangoes.

    Quote

Liked plucking mangoes, PM Modi revealed

"While growing up, we did not have the luxury to buy mangoes. But I loved plucking mangoes directly from the tree. It used to be the best. Now, I need to control myself and think twice about how much I should eat," PM Modi said.

    Defense

Later, Akshay said he asked whatever came to his mind

The "aam" question got Akshay criticism, but later he clarified he spoke with a free mind.

"How much research do you think goes into asking about aam? There was no research. I asked whatever came to my mind," he said months after the interview went viral.

But the question hasn't evaded public memory and Zaira's tweet shows she wants people to ask tough questions.

    Delhi riots

PM Modi is being slammed for Delhi riots

PM Modi has come under serious criticism from several quarters for the way he handled many issues.

The latest tirade came after his administration failed to contain violence that rocked Delhi this week.

A protest against CAA snowballed into Hindu-Muslim riots, the worst one to hit the National Capital in decades, taking the lives of more than 30 people and injuring over 200.

    Details

Yesterday, court gave BJP a breather

Notably, leaders of PM Modi's party, the BJP, have been blamed for the carnage as some of them indulged in hate speeches that possibly fanned tensions.

Yesterday, Delhi High Court gave Centre four weeks' time to file a response on a plea seeking registration of FIR against BJP leaders who passed controversial remarks.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said time wasn't conducive for FIRs.
