Naturally, fans were shocked to see Mark Ruffalo who plays Hulk, referencing the snap while wishing Josh Brolin, who plays Thanos, on his birthday.

Ruffalo was referring to the finger snap or Decimation
The finger snap that Ruffalo casually referred to in his tweet, has come to be known as Decimation within the MCU.
To maintain balance in the universe, Thanos set about collecting the Infinity Gems so he could finger snap half the universe's population, including some of our beloved Avengers, into oblivion.
Fans getting over the shock of Thanos' action took unkindly to Ruffalo's reference.

Despite on-screen enmity, Ruffalo and Brolin are great friends
Ruffalo's Hulk might have had the living daylights beaten out of him by Brolin's Thanos in Infinity War, but the two are great friends in real life.
