Here's what Netflix plans for 'Designated Survivor' Season 3

    What's the story

Popular American political thriller Designated Survivor is all set to make a comeback for its third season with Netflix as its new home.

When we last left President Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland), he was dealing with an earthquake crisis and had announced that he would run for re-election as an Independent.

Here is what you should expect from Season 3.

    Details

Next season would be the beginning of an election: Sutherland

In a recent interview with RadioTimes, Sutherland said, "Next season would undoubtedly have to be the beginning of an election [campaign] - just the timing alone would dictate that."

He added, "And then I think you are going to have to deal with a character who has to make the decision if he really wants to run in the first place."

    Quote

Tom's grief after wife's death would catch up with him

Addressing Tom's growing distance with his family, Sutherland said, "The one thing that character valued more than anything at the very opening of that show was his family - and it's been slowly pulled apart. So, there's more decisions that will have to be made."

    Synopsis

Kirkman will learn what it takes 'to make a leader'

According to an official synopsis for Season 3 released by Netflix, "President Kirkman will face a political reality... campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay?"

"This season will explore today's world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and 'fake news.' Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance."

    Dates

Season 3 has already wrapped up filming, inform show actors

Although Netflix hasn't announced an official date, it is confirmed that Designated Survivor Season 3 will drop sometime in 2019.

Another good news is that the show finished filming in February 2019, according to a tweet by actor Kal Penn, who plays Seth Wright on the show.

His co-star Italia Ricci had also confirmed the news in a similar tweet from February.

    Information

'Designated Survivor' was dropped by ABC due to falling viewership

In May 2018, ABC had canceled Designated Survivor a few days before the Season 2 finale as the show's viewership witnessed a steady fall. Later in September, Netflix saved the show by renewing it for the third season, which would be a Netflix Original.
