    What's the story

Indian film industry's leading lady, Deepika Padukone, has earned a spot on Deadline Hollywood magazine's Global Disruptors 2024 list.

Padukone is the only Indian celebrity to be featured on this list.

She is recognized for her consistent box office success over two years and her representation of India on various global platforms.

The prestigious list includes international stars like Eva Longoria, Uma Thurman, and Lee Sung-jin.

    Journey

Padukone's journey: 'Breaking boundaries and taboos'

In the feature, Padukone is described as "India's surprise superstar who is on a mission to break boundaries and taboos."

She shared her perspective on success, stating, "Of course the success of a movie is important, and the box office is important, and the awards and accolades are important, but for me, as a person, the time I've had with people and the experiences I have on the set of a film are the most important."

    Statement

Padukone reflected on her debut film 'Om Shanti Om'

Soon-to-be-mom Padukone also reflected on her debut Hindi film Om Shanti Om (2007).

"When I think back, I think of myself as so young and naïve and lost but at the same time, I felt so protected and I really couldn't have asked for a better debut, because they protected me and they didn't need to," she stated.

"They made sure that I emoted well, that I said my dialogue well, and made me feel included and comfortable."

    Achievements

From Oscar to BAFTA: Padukone has represented India globally

Padukone has represented India at esteemed events such as the Oscars and BAFTAs, served as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival, and was featured on TIME magazine's cover.

She was also the first Indian to unveil the FIFA World Cup trophy.

In 2017, she made her Hollywood debut with xXx: Return Of Xander Cage.

Discussing her journey in Hollywood, Padukone said, "It was a really new process for me...The systems are so different between Hollywood and Bollywood."

    Advocacy

Padukone's advocacy for mental health; upcoming projects

Beyond her thriving acting career, Padukone has fearlessly tackled the taboo surrounding mental health by candidly sharing her own battles with anxiety and depression.

On the professional front, she will be seen in films Singham Again and Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan.

In her personal life, Padukone and her actor husband Ranveer Singh are expecting their first child in September.
