What's the story
Damon Lindelof, co-creator of the adventure series Lost, is set to return to the superhero genre.
He will be part of the creative team behind Lanterns—DC's upcoming show based on characters from the Green Lantern comics.
Joining him in this venture is Chris Mundy, known for his work on Netflix's Ozark.
The announcement was made by James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios.

'Lanterns' announced as part of DC Universe reboot
Lanterns was announced last year as one of the first 10 film and TV titles within the rebooted DC Universe by Gunn and Peter Safran.
Safran described it as "a huge HBO-quality event" that is "very much in the vein of True Detective."
This Green Lantern series is a separate project from another Green Lantern series previously being developed by Greg Berlanti for Max, which is no longer moving forward.

'Lanterns' to play key role in DC's storytelling universe
Lanterns is slated to be a foundational show for Gunn and Safran's DC Studios slate.
Safran, in January 2023, emphasized the series's importance, stating it plays a "really big role in leading into the main story we are telling across film and TV."
He also hinted at the tone, suggesting a "more of a terrestrial-based investigation story."

Meanwhile, Stewart—a marine—shared Hal's defiance, earning him a Green Lantern role.
Stewart's career rivaled his predecessors, even ascending to the Guardians of the Universe, an unprecedented feat among humans.

Lindelof and Mundy's combined experience suggests a promising future for the Green Lantern series.
Lindelof's television pedigree includes his work on Lost, The Leftovers, andWatchmen.
His HBO drama The Leftovers delved into the aftermath of a sudden disappearance, while his 2019 show Watchmen used its iconic comic backdrop to explore heroism and race relations, earning 11 Emmys.
Mundy also brings a unique perspective from his time as an executive producer and writer on True Detective: Night Country.
