    Daler Mehndi "saddened" by the verdict in illegal immigration case

    What's the story

    After being sentenced to two years in jail on Friday for running an illegal immigration ring, Daler Mehndi was soon granted bail.

    Now, the singer has taken to Twitter to put forth his viewpoint on the matter.

    He said, "This saddens me but I have complete faith in God that truth will come out soon."

    He even posted a video message along with his lawyer

    Sat Sri Akal! This case has been going on since last 14 years with my brother, who unfortunately passed away last year, as the main accused.     Details

    Mehndi and his brother were convicted in a 2003 case

    In the case that dates back to 2003, Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh were accused of illegally sending people abroad disguised as members of a dancing troupe and charging a hefty "passage fees" in return.

    It was alleged that they took two troupes to the USA in 1998 and 1999 during the course of which 10 persons were "dropped off" illegally.
