    What's the story

Bridgerton fans are a confused lot right now!

After conflicting reports were posted by the cast online over the current status of Season 2, they are now asking for updates from Lady Whistledown.

It all started when Luke Newton shared throwback photos, pumping up fans on Season 2 filming, but Nicola Coughlan dashed it all by tweeting that it has not started shooting yet.

    How it started

The confusion began when Newton shared throwback photos

Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, shared throwback photos featuring him and co-star Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, on Instagram, while writing, "The boys are back in town."

Fans naturally got excited as there was news that Season 2 shooting would start this March, but Coughlan, who portrays Penelope Featherington, tweeted soon that Season 2 has not started filming yet but will begin soon.

    The series

Based on Julia Quinn's novels, show set in Regency-era England

Bridgerton is currently the most-watched series on Netflix, grabbing the number 1 spot in 76 countries on the streamer.

The show, adapted from novels by American historical romance author Julia Quinn, follows the life of Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, a young woman living in England in the early 1800s.

To escape societal pressures, she falsifies romance with the wealthy Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page).

    Season Two

Expect more steaminess in Season 2, says Bailey

The second season will be based on the second book in Quinn's Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me.

The second book sees the pursuit of a suitable marriage for Anthony, Viscount Bridgerton, the eldest Bridgerton son.

Bailey told fans last month to expect more "steaminess" in Season 2, adding, "I think the expression of sex in this show is so important."

    Details

'Bridgerton,' created by Shonda Rhimes, premiered on Christmas last year
