'Acharya': Why has Chiranjeevi-starrer left exhibitors upset?

    What's the story

Telugu film Acharya, starring megastar Chiranjeevi and his son-actor Ram Charan, turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in the career of Chiru.

Koratala Siva, who helmed the project, was also called out by fans and critics.

And, to add to this, a group of exhibitors recently staged a protest against Siva for the loss that the film incurred.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The loss of Acharya was unexpected as it was one of the highly anticipated films.

With Acharya, fans got to see Chiru on the big screens after more than two years, following the historical drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019).

It was expected that the action drama would be added to the list of successful Telugu movies of this year but that didn't happen.

    Details

Exhibitors demanded Siva compensate for their loss

As per the latest reports, a group of exhibitors has demanded that Siva compensate for their loss.

They started protesting outside Siva's office since Tuesday night saying that they have lost Rs. 15cr due to the film's failure and would like proper compensation for the same.

Apparently, the exhibitors warned that they would stage protests outside Chiru's residence too if need be.

    Information

A section of netizens supported Siva, #JusticeForKoratalaSiva started trending

Meanwhile, as the news about the exhibitors' protest surfaced online, fans took to Twitter and demanded justice for the director.

While some suggested that Siva must not have interfered in the film's business affairs, others stated that it was unfair to demand payment from the director.

With this, #JusticeForKoratalaSiva started trending on the social media platform on Wednesday.

    Information

Did Charan and Chiru repay a whopping amount?

A new report has come up stating that Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi have paid Rs. 20cr to the exhibitors as a measure to make up for the Rs. 15cr loss alleged by the distributors. However, there's no official word from anyone regarding this development.

    Reason

'Acharya' clashed with 'RRR' and 'KGF: Chapter 2'

The loss of Acharya could be attributed to the stiff competition the film had with RRR and KGF: Chapter 2.

Though Acharya was released (April 29) more than a month after RRR (March 25), the SS Rajamouli directorial had mind-blowing footfalls.

Besides, KGF: Chapter 2 was released on April 14 and it was on an unstoppable rampage for more than two months.
