    What's the story

The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava has taken a phenomenal start at the box office.

The Laxman Utekar directorial reportedly earned over ₹67cr within two days of its release.

The high demand has prompted exhibitors to add late-night and early-morning shows, mostly in Maharashtra.

A few theaters in some locations have added even 6:00am and 1:00am shows, reported Hindustan Times.

    Film synopsis

'Chhaava' depicts the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj

Chhaava is a biographical film based on the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

The movie depicts Sambhaji's fight against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Considering its historical background and Sambhaji's great popularity in Maharashtra, it has been received well in the state.

From Sunday, several theaters in Mumbai and Pune started midnight screenings for the film, extending their screening hours.

    Occupancy surge

'Chhaava' saw increased occupancy rates across various shows

Chhaava saw a huge jump in occupancy rates of its shows.

On Saturday, the film witnessed 50% occupancy across all shows which jumped to 69% for night screenings.

In Mumbai, the number was an impressive 93%, while in Pune it stood at a staggering 97%, per Hindustan Times.

The film has also done well in southern India with centers like Chennai and Hyderabad reporting occupancy of 81% and 88%, respectively.

The movie also stars Akshaye Khanna and Rashmika Mandanna.
