    What's the story

    Ananya Panday, acclaimed for her performances in Student of the Year 2 and Gehraiyaan, is set to lead a new drama series, Call Me Bae.

    Penned by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair, the eight-part original series follows the life of a young woman named Bae who transitions from heiress to hustler after a scandal.

    Here's what we know about this upcoming series so far.

    Release date

    'Call Me Bae' will be dropping in September

    On Monday, filmmaker Karan Johar took to social media to announce that Call Me Bae is set to hit Amazon Prime Video on September 6.

    Sharing a new poster from the series with Panday in it, the filmmaker wrote, "This bae is here to stay and slay! #CallMeBaeOnPrime, Sept 6 only on @primevideoin, (sic)."

    This series marks Panday's debut in the OTT show arena. She was last seen in Netflix's film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.

    Series synopsis

    From riches to rags: Know plot of 'Call Me Bae' 

    Backed by Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, Call Me Bae revolves around the character of Bae, portrayed by Panday, who learns that her most valuable assets are not her diamonds but her street smarts and style.

    Despite facing financial difficulties, she remains unbroken and navigates through Mumbai's newsrooms while discovering love, sisterhood, and a better version of herself.

    The series was conceptualized by Moitra and directed by Collin D'Cunha.

    Meet the ensemble cast and crew of the show

    Alongside Panday, the cast of Call Me Bae includes Emmy Award-winning comedian Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada (Guilty), MTV Roadies fame Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, musician Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur.

    The series is a product of Dharmatic Entertainment.

    Johar's companies Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment have supply deals with Netflix (Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives) and Amazon Prime Video.

    Johar's other project is set for ZEE5 premiere

    According to Variety, Johar-backed film Yodha was featured in Prime Video India's extensive lineup for 2024, alongside 69 titles comprising new and returning series, as well as original and licensed films.

    The announcement was made during a high-profile event hosted by the 52-year-old filmmaker.

    Meanwhile, Johar, along with Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga, revealed plans for the series Gyaarah Gyaarah on the streaming platform ZEE5, last year.
