With Yerin as Sophie, here's how 'Bridgerton 4' will unfold!

    What's the story

The highly-anticipated fourth season of Netflix's hit series Bridgerton has found its Sophie Beckett.

Yerin Ha, known for her roles in Halo and Dune: Prophecy, has been cast as the love interest of Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson.

The upcoming season will focus on the romantic journey of the second-eldest Bridgerton sibling. However, there's a twist in the tale for fans of Julia Quinn's novels.

    Character details

Cultural adaptation: Sophie Beckett becomes Sophie Baek

In the original novels, the character is named Sophie Beckett. However, in a move to honor Ha's Korean heritage, the showrunners have decided to change her surname to a Korean one.

Ha expressed her appreciation for this thoughtful gesture, stating, "A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that's why changing a name can be so powerful."

She added, "To make Sophie's name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering."

    Character arc

Ha's character will face social and emotional challenges

According to the character description by Netflix's Tudum, Sophie Baek is a victim of tragic circumstances that force her to work under a demanding employer.

However, her life takes a turn when she attends Violet Bridgerton's (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball in disguise and encounters Benedict.

Ha revealed that what attracted her to the role was Sophie's constant struggle with social status and concealing her feelings for Benedict.

    Expectations

What to expect from S4—based on the books

While the show has deviated from Quinn's novels before, we finally know that Benedict's time in the spotlight has come!

In both the books and the show, Benedict is at a crossroads—emotionally adrift and unsure of his place in life and love.

Much like in the novel, Benedict's story sees him avoiding marriage, and seeking a connection that rivals the spark he felt with Sophie.

S03 dropped hints of his eventual transformation—suggesting Benedict is ready to embrace deeper love.

    Rehearsals

Ha and Thompson begin dance rehearsals for 'Bridgerton'

Ha and Thompson have already started rehearsing their dance sequences for the show.

Ha described these sessions as "really special" and "very vulnerable," likening dancing to an "extension of their emotions."

"I've only stepped on Yerin's toes once, which is good," Thompson jokingly told Tudum.

Despite initial nerves, Ha shared that her co-stars have been incredibly welcoming. Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton, even gifted her a crocheted bookmark.
