    What's the story

The online ticketing platform, BookMyShow, has lodged an official complaint against scalpers who were reportedly selling tickets for the upcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai at an inflated price.

The British band is set to return to India after a nine-year hiatus, sparking widespread excitement among fans.

However, many were left disappointed on Sunday when tickets sold out within seconds of being released on the platform.

    Scalping issue

Unauthorized third-party sites selling Coldplay tickets

Per reports, around 1.3 crore people tried to access BMS on the day of the sale.

Following the rapid sell-out, unauthorized third-party sites began reselling the tickets at prices 10-15 times higher than their original cost.

This led to widespread frustration among fans who were unable to secure tickets through BookMyShow.

In response, the ticketing platform issued a statement disassociating itself from third-party sites such as Viagogo and Gigsberg.

    Consumer alert

BookMyShow's warning against purchasing from unauthorized sources

On Tuesday, BookMyShow warned consumers about the risks of purchasing tickets from unauthorized sources on X/Twitter.

The company stated, "We urge you not to fall victim to these scams. Any tickets bought from unauthorized sources will be at the risk of the consumer and can turn out to be fake tickets."

They also emphasized that scalping is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India.

    Demand management

BookMyShow's efforts to manage the overwhelming demand

Despite the challenges, a BookMyShow spokesperson highlighted their efforts to manage the overwhelming demand.

They stated, "We implemented a queueing system to manage the overwhelming demand and addressed issues caused by suspicious and malicious traffic within minutes."

The spokesperson also mentioned that due to unprecedented demand, a third Mumbai show was added shortly after tickets for the initial two shows sold out.

    Tour information

Coldplay's upcoming tour and Mumbai concert details

The upcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai in January is part of the band's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025.

The tour will commence on October 30 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, and conclude on August 31, 2025, with a show at Wembley Stadium in London.

This will be Coldplay's first visit to India since their performance at the Global Citizen Festival back in 2016.
