    What's the story

Weigel Broadcasting Co. has announced plans for a new national television network, called MeTV Toons, dedicated to classic animation.

This venture is a collaborative effort between Warner Bros. Discovery and Weigel, the driving force behind the MeTV Network.

The lineup will feature a wide range of classic cartoons including Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Daffy Duck, Scooby Doo, and Tom & Jerry, among others.

    Expanded lineup

MeTV Toons to feature more than just Warner Bros. creations

In addition to Warner Bros. classics, MeTV Toons will also showcase other beloved characters such as Speed Racer, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Woody Woodpecker, Casper, and Betty Boop.

The network aims to reach audiences through various platforms including over-the-air broadcast television, traditional MVPDs and virtual MVPDs, as well as ad-supported streaming services.

This move ensures a diverse range of classic animations for viewers across different platforms.

    Joint venture

MeTV will broadcast 'world's best-known and most-loved classic cartoons'

Neal Sabin, vice-chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co., expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "We are honored to work with the amazing team at Warner Bros. Discovery and others on this network."

He further added that MeTV Toons will be dedicated 24/7 to showcasing "the world's best-known and most-loved classic cartoons."

David Decker, president of content sales for WBD also shared his delight about this unique opportunity to unite iconic animated characters in one place.

    Team introduction

MeTV Toons set to launch in June

The network is set to launch on June 25, 2024, with animation author Jerry Beck and character voice actor Bob Bergen joining the team.

Beck will contribute by producing original content that enhances the viewing experience, while Bergen will lend his voice as the signature sound of the network.

Beck clarified that the channel's focus will be on celebrating the history of animation rather than producing new content.
