    What's the story

    An exciting piece of news is coming from the sets of Hansal Mehta's upcoming series, Gandhi.

    While Scam 1992 and Madgaon Express actor Pratik Gandhi was already signed on to essay the eponymous role, now, his wife-actor Bhamini Oza has come aboard as Mahatma Gandhi's wife Kasturba Gandhi.

    The update was announced on Kasturba's birth anniversary on Thursday.

    Interestingly, this will be the first time the couple, who married in 2009, will share the screen together.

    Actor's statement 

    Oza shared excitement about portraying Kasturba

    Oza expressed her enthusiasm about playing Kasturba, describing it as a "beautiful twist of fate in my acting journey."

    She said, "Working with Hansal Mehta and the Applause Entertainment team is a dream come true, especially alongside my husband Pratik."

    "From our early theatre days, we've dreamed of sharing the screen together, and now it's finally happening. My attempt is to bring honesty to the character and a genuine connection to the story."

    Applause Entertainment and Mehta's praise for her 

    Applause Entertainment's Managing Director, Sameer Nair, praised the casting decision, stating it adds a "unique layer of authenticity" to the series.

    "Their shared understanding brings an unparalleled depth of realism to the portrayal of these legendary characters," he added.

    Filmmaker Mehta also lauded Oza as a "terrific actor" who is "formidable" on stage and expressed his privilege in showcasing her playing the character of a lifetime.

    Production details

    'Gandhi' series draws inspiration from popular historian's works

    The series is reportedly currently on the floors and is being filmed with plans for completion in the coming months.

    It draws inspiration from historian and author Ramachandra Guha's works Gandhi Before India and Gandhi-The Years that Changed the World.

    Siddhartha Basu, often referred to as the "Father of Indian Television Quizzing," is aboard as the historical consultant, factual advisor, and creative consultant.

    Oza's career at a glance

    Per IMDb, Oza has been a part of series such as Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai, The Heartbreak Hotel, and Ithaar, and has been seen in movies such as Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery and Bhavai.

    Her upcoming projects include Ishq Fitoori and Aavartan.

    Separately, Gandhi will next be seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar on April 19. The movie also stars Vidya Balan.
