    What's the story

The much-anticipated second season of Severance is slated to premiere on Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025. This release comes nearly three years after the debut of the first season.

The sci-fi workplace thriller is expected to address several cliffhangers that intrigued fans in the Season 1 finale.

"I think it'll be a really interesting second season," said John Turturro, who portrays company man Irving in the show.

    New territory

'We are delving into the unknown': Turturro

Turturro shared his thoughts on the upcoming season with Variety, stating, "We are delving into the unknown that the audience is waiting for, and then doing it incrementally."

Meanwhile, director and executive producer Ben Stiller expressed hope that these new episodes would meet fans' high expectations despite a three-year gap between seasons.

This is Stiller's first experience working on a second season of any show.

    Production challenges

'It's been an interesting experience': Stiller

Stiller reflected on the unique challenges of producing a second season, stating, "I've never been through it before—a second season of anything. Everything I've done has gotten canceled back in the day."

He acknowledged that there is an expectation from the audience for a show they love and emphasized their commitment to meeting these expectations.

The production of Severance's first season was delayed due to the pandemic, while filming for Season 2 faced obstacles from Hollywood strikes and reported creative disputes.

    High hopes

    'I hope it's good': Stiller

Despite the long wait, Stiller remains optimistic about the upcoming season.

"I'm excited for it. We put everything into it," he said, adding that it's been enjoyable to delve deeper into the story with these actors and series creator Dan Erickson.

The show also stars Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, Zach Cherry, and Christopher Walken.
