Box office: Akshay-Tiger's 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' sees slight uptick

    What's the story

In a clash with Ajay Devgn's Maidaan, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, featuring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, made a thunderous debut on Thursday, pulling in an impressive ₹15.65cr.

However, the heat of the competition seemed to affect its stride on Friday (day 2), with collections dipping to ₹7.6cr.

Yet, on Saturday (day 3), there was a glimmer of hope as the film showed a slight uptick in performance.

Here's a breakdown of its collections.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar and backed by Jackky Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment, BMCM was pegged as a blockbuster extravaganza.

However, despite its holiday debut and early anticipation for a weekend surge, the film failed to live up to expectations.

Notably, it faced a wave of mixed to negative reviews, drawing flak for its uninspired plot and predictable narrative twists.

In contrast, Maidaan garnered predominantly positive feedback from critics and audiences alike.

    Earnings details

Film's earnings breakdown and occupancy rate

According to Sacnilk, the film raked in around ₹8.50cr on its third day, bringing the total domestic earnings to ₹31.75cr.

The film recorded an overall 18.27% occupancy rate in Hindi, with the highest turnout observed during night shows (27.77%).

Despite the slight improvement on the third day, the movie's performance is still underwhelming given its star power, hype, and action-packed sequences.

Now, the film entirely hinges on positive word-of-mouth.

    Film overview

Star-studded cast and the plot of 'BMCM'

BMCM features a star-studded cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F, and Sonakshi Sinha.

The plot revolves around elite soldiers Firoz aka Bade Miyan (Kumar) and Rakesh aka Chote Miyan (Shroff) on a mission to recover a stolen weapon from Kabir (Sukumaran), a rogue scientist planning to cause chaos in India using artificial intelligence (AI).

The film is packed with adrenaline-pumping stunts and action sequences.

    Director's insight

'Bar has to be higher': Director Zafar discussed filming challenges

In a recent interview with PTI, director Zafar shared his experience of directing an action film with stars like Kumar and Shroff.

He stated, "There's actually more pressure when you make an action film with an action hero as the expectation is already very high."

"So, with them, the idea is to show the audience something that they've never seen before, whether it's hand-to-hand, or chase sequence...The bar has to be higher because they are known as action heroes."
