    What's the story

Yaanai, starring Kollywood star Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar, now has a release date.

The action entertainer, set against a rural backdrop, is slated to hit the big screens on May 6.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hari, Yaanai has been bankrolled by Drumsticks Productions.

Also starring Yogi Babu and Radikaa Sarathkumar in pivotal roles, the film has GV Prakash as its music composer.

    Announcement

    Makers shared poster, release date

"It's confirmed!! #Yaanai in theaters from May 6," read Vijay's tweet.

Along with the release date, the makers of Yaanai shared a new poster.

It featured a fierce-looking Vijay in a rugged shirt and dhoti thrashing goons. The setting looked like that of a village.

This update comes days after we got a making video of a song from the film, Bodhaya Vittu Vaale.

    Information

Film's teaser was dropped last December

Before this, makers had shared an intense teaser of Yaanai in December last year.

The clip, lasting 1:26 minutes, was only about Vijay's character and his power to take down villains.

Nothing much was revealed about the plot, but it sure indicated that the film will be high on action.

Until now, makers have released two songs, Bodhaya Vittu Vaale and Yelamma Yela.

    Details

Reason behind title, streaming, satellite rights, other details

Earlier, Vijay shared that he will play a character who's fiercely protective about his family, just like how elephants are about their brood.

Hence, makers chose Yaanai (elephant in Tamil) as the title.

Notably, this will be Vijay's fourth release in 2022.

As far as Yaanai's OTT release is concerned, ZEE5 has bagged the streaming rights, while satellite rights have gone to Zee Tamil.

    Updates

These are the upcoming films of Vijay

Separately, Vijay (44) has many interesting projects in his pipeline.

This year, apart from Yaanai, the actor may also see the releases of Tamil spy thriller Borrder, directed by Arivazhagan Venkatachalam; action thriller Agni Siragugal, directed by Naveen; and Oh My Dog, directed by Sarov Shanmugam and bankrolled by Suriya's 2D Entertainment.

He also has cop drama Sinam and Boxer waiting to hit theaters.
