    What's the story

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who is currently touring India as part of his Mathematics tour, was joined on stage by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman in Chennai on Wednesday.

The duo performed a remix of Sheeran's Shape of You and Rahman's Urvasi.

However, the performance was marred by a technical glitch with Rahman's microphone, rendering him inaudible for most of the show.

    Fan response

Sheeran and Rahman's performance received mixed reactions

The British artist introduced Rahman to the stage with: "Will you make some noise for AR Rahman?" which the audience obliged with loud cheers.

Sheeran took over when Rahman couldn't be heard and the Oscar winner started doing adlibs, to give fans an enjoyable time nonetheless.

However, some fans expressed the performance could have been better with comments like "Irundhalum nalla practice pani irukalam (Even then, we could have practiced well)."

    Pre-show meeting

Sheeran's interactions with Rahman and family before the show

Before the show, Sheeran met Rahman and his son AR Ameen. Ameen, who is also a singer, posted pictures from their meeting on Instagram.

One picture shows Sheeran posing with Rahman and Ameen while another shows him taking a picture of Rahman working in his studio.

The British singer also posted a video on Instagram where he sang his love ballad Perfect with students of Rahman's KM College of Music & Technology.

    Tour conclusion

Sheeran's tour will conclude in Delhi-NCR on February 15

Sheeran's India tour, presented by AEG Presents Asia and BookMyShow Live, will conclude with a performance in Delhi-NCR on February 15.

The Chennai show also had Jonita Gandhi performing.

The crowd went berserk when Sheeran announced Rahman's name and the duo sang the Tamil version of Rahman's iconic track Urvashi Urvashi, with Sheeran adding lines from his global hit Shape of You.
