'The Social Network' actor Armie Hammer is the next Batman?

    What's the story

The Batman is the upcoming standalone movie from DCEU and while fans cannot wait to see what the film has in store, the project has hit a couple of snafus along the way.

It started with Matt Reeves replacing Ben Affleck as director, beginning his search for a new, younger Batman.

Now, reports suggest Armie Hammer could be the next caped crusader.

    Read on.

    Hammer

Hammer has entered 'final negotiations' with studios to play Batman

Following news of Affleck's exit as Batman, several actors wanted to fill the position including the likes of Nick Jonas.

However, Revenge of the Fans claims that the studio has narrowed in on Hammer and has entered into 'final negotiations' with the 32-year-old actor.

Hammer is thus likely to appear as Bruce Wayne when Reeves' film hits theaters on June 25, 2021.

    Do you know?

Hammer had already been cast as Batman in previous project

For those unaware, Hammer was cast as Batman in Justice League: Mortal, George Miller's 2007 project, which was ultimately shelved. It looks like Hammer will finally be able to take up the mantle of the caped crusader of Gotham.

    Movie details

What is the Batman role Hammer will be stepping into?

Reeves' upcoming Batman movie is going to be a 'noir driven detective' film that shifts focus on the 'world's greatest detective'.

Notably, the new film will have a much younger Batman, but will not focus on an origin story.

Reeves' movie will also not be tied to the existing films within the DCEU in any way, giving the director a degree of creative freedom.

    Hopes

Reeves has high expectations from the character of Batman

Reeves said, "...supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation".

    Skills

Hammer has job cut out, but is suited for role

Hammer seems to have a tough task ahead of him as he tries to fit into Reeves' vision of Batman.

However, the actor has had a string of acclaimed roles including Call Me By Your Name and Sorry to Bother You.

He is next slated to appear opposite Felicity Jones in the biopic on Ruth Ginsburg, the Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court.
