'Manmarziyaan': Miffed Anurag slams production house for deleting 'objectionable' scenes

    What's the story

Anurag Kashyap, whose voice on pressing issues can't (and shouldn't) be silenced, has expressed discontent over the treatment meted to his directorial venture 'Manmarziyaan'.

He has slammed the production house Eros for deleting the 'objectionable' scenes from the movie, presumably without his approval.

Eros had reportedly approached CBFC regarding the deletion of three scenes that allegedly hurt the Sikh religious sentiments.

    Here's what happened.

    'Manmarziyan' row

Sikh community raised objections to smoking scenes

Reportedly, a Sikh organization had alleged that three scenes from the movie hurt the religious sentiments.

It included scenes of Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu smoking, along with the actress thinking about her past while entering the gurudwara.

How one smoking scene or a character's thoughts inside a gurudwara hurt sentiments is something for science fiction writers to figure out.

    Censor Board

Eros approached Censor Board to remove the scenes

Soon after the matter was raised, Eros chairman Kishore Lulla approached the Censor Board to make the necessary deletion.

"We have removed the three scenes from the film as people's sentiments were getting hurt. The said changes have come into effect in metros from today and will reflect across India from the coming Thursday-Friday," a source from the production told PTI.

CBFC deletes three scenes from 'Manmarziyaan'

Thanks to @anuragkashyap72 Censor Board to accept the responsibility delete the scenes. It's an irony that when Anurag Kashyap wanted to solve the drug problem with @UdtaPunjabFilm_, it had so many cuts by CBFC but in @manmarziyanfilm when it was unnecessary, CBFC let it go. pic.twitter.com/g8RvLb4h7n

    Do you know?

Anurag wasn't happy while his movie was being edited

But Anurag didn't remain quiet and tweeted against the producers and haters. He wrote that now that the scenes have been deleted, all problems of Punjab will be solved. He also slammed Kishore Lulla and wrote, "Eros knows how to solve matters in minutes".

    Twitter Post

Anurag is angry and rightly so

Before my tweet is taken down -Congratulations . Here by all problems of Punjab are solved and Sikh youth have been saved . Happy to be back in LaLa land again. Next time you are threatened by a film please call Kishore Lulla directly on Eros knows how to solve matters in minutes pic.twitter.com/4yqU3T9utK

    Taapsee's reaction

Not just Anurag, Taapsee too expressed her displeasure

Apart from Anurag, the movie's Rumi, Taapsee Pannu too expressed her disappointment over the deletion of scenes.

Taapsee, who herself belongs to the Sikh religion, also wrote a sarcastic tweet and said that deleting of the scenes might ensure that no Sikh will ever smoke or will assure that the religion is most pious and peaceful of all.

    Twitter Post

Fringe elements get ire of Taapsee Pannu

I am sure this edit will assure that no Sikh will ever Smoke and no woman will ever think about ANYONE else while getting married in a Gurudwara. THIS surely will make Waheguru proud and assures that MY religion is the purest, most righteous and peaceful ! #Proud πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

    Motwane

Producer Vikramaditya Motwane supports Anurag, Taapsee

Anurag's friend Vikramaditya Motwane came out in his support and said this was a bad example to set.

While Motwane lauded the CBFC for showing maturity at the time of release, it slammed Eros for not supporting the team.

It's hard to not agree with Motwane. If only Eros showed some spine! But then business isn't something one wants to mess with.

CBFC showed maturity, production house didn't, tweets Motwane

The one time the censor board showed maturity and our spineless studios shat and ran. What a terrible precedent to set. https://t.co/Oz3BoKumRz
