    What's the story

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will celebrate the 17th anniversary of the iconic film Jodhaa Akbar with a special screening in March.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles.

It tells the tale of the romance between Mughal Emperor Akbar and Rajput princess Jodhabai.

    Director's statement

'Jodhaa Akbar' director expressed gratitude for film's enduring legacy

Gowariker emphasized the timeless legacy of Jodhaa Akbar.

He said, "On this 17th Anniversary of Jodhaa Akbar, I'm filled with immense gratitude for the audiences that have kept it in their memory and continue to express their love for it."

"The film's journey, from its release to now being honored with a special screening at the Academy, is an acknowledgement of the artistic contribution of everyone involved."

    Cultural impact

'Jodhaa Akbar' continues to resonate with global audiences

Gowariker further added, "The appreciation Jodhaa Akbar continues to receive is truly humbling, and I'm thrilled to see it resonate with audiences worldwide."

"This screening at the Academy is not just a celebration of the film but also of the rich cultural heritage it represents."

The film's influence goes beyond India, having introduced Indian cinema to international audiences.

The Academy's decision to host a special screening of Jodhaa Akbar highlights the film's indelible mark on Indian cinema.

To recall, in December, the Academy revealed that Jodhaa's wedding lehenga, designed by Neeta Lulla, will be displayed at the Academy Museum.

Released on February 15, 2008, the film also stars Sonu Sood, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raza Murad, and Poonam Sinha, among others.

It is currently streaming on Netflix.
