For 'wrong depiction', Salem sends legal notice to 'Sanju' makers

    What's the story

One of the key members of the D-company and a major conspirator of 1993 Bombay serial blasts, Salem'>Abu Salem has sent a legal notice to makers of 'Sanju' for allegedly depicting wrong information about him.

Salem has threatened a defamation case and also sought an apology from makers including Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

He has given them 15 days to respond.

    The problem

Salem never supplied arms to Sanjay Dutt, claims terrorist's lawyer

The notice was sent through Salem's lawyer, Prashant Pandey. The scene of 'Sanju' which led to contention was the one in which Ranbir Kapoor confessed to having received arms and ammunition in 1993, when communal tensions in the country were high.

Pandey said the scene defamed Salem as he never supplied arms to Sanjay Dutt, which he claimed can be proved.

    The demand

Salem claims he never met Dutt, seeks apology

Calling the content 'extremely insinuating, disparaging and defamatory', Salem has sought its removal from the movie and an apology. His counsel also claimed that Dutt and his client never met.

If the makers fail to take the required action, he plans to file a defamation suit against them.

Salem is currently serving life-sentence after being convicted on terror charges related to the bomb blasts.

    The movie

Dutt's life interested viewers, movie weaved magic at box-office

'Sanju', which starred Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, has reportedly earned Rs. 334 crore at the domestic box office, since its release on June 29.

It touched many areas of Dutt's life- his drug abuse, his affairs, his bond with father Sunil Dutt, the run-in with the law and the imprisonment.

However, Hirani's 'clean-up' act didn't appeal much to the critics.
