    What's the story

    Following the fare hike in May, Delhi Metro witnessed a decline of nearly 1.5 lakh commuters a day in June.

    In Jun'17, the number of passengers was 50 lakh less compared to that of May'17.

    From 10 May'17, the minimum fare was hiked from Rs. 8 to Rs. 10 and the maximum to Rs. 50 from Rs. 30.

    Bawana bypolls: 1,413 choose NOTA; say "No party is serious"

    Though AAP secured a comfortable victory in the Bawana bypoll, retaining the Delhi assembly constituency, many voters felt none of the eight candidates deserved their vote.

    Even as the voter-turnout was 45%, 1,413 voters chose NOTA (none of the above) compared to 866 NOTA votes in the 2015 election when the voter-turnout was 61.8%.

    They said no party had done any development in Bawana.

    Arun Jaitley Defamation Case: Delhi HC dismisses Kejriwal's "strange" plea

    Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal filed a plea against the speedy trial of the civil defamation case filed by Arun Jaitley against him and five other AAP members.

    However, Delhi HC dismissed the plea saying it was "misconceived" and "devoid of merit."

    Kejriwal's appealed against the 26 July decision of a single judge who directed the joint registrar to "expedite" the recording of evidence.

    Metro Fares

    Delhi Metro: Fares to be hiked further

    In May'17 the fare for the 15km slab, which has the majority of metro riders, was increased from Rs. 18 to Rs 40.

    While this hiked fare structure will continue till September, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation would again increase the fares in October.

    From 1 October, the minimum fare for traveling distances of over 2km would rise by Rs. 10.

    Noida: Health Dept. authorities inspect cleanliness ahead of Eid

    Ahead of Bakri Eid on 1 September, Noida Authority Additional CEO Rakesh Kumar Mishra and a health department team surveyed to ensure cleanliness of Muslim-dominated areas ahead of the Eid festivities.

    They visited sectors 6, 7, 8, 31, sector-8's Jama Masjid, and Nithari village to inspect their cleanliness levels.

    Residents complained unauthorized vendors at Jama Masjid created a mess in the neighborhood.

    Haryana: Bhondsi jail to get 17 new mobile phone jammers

    To intensify security at Gurgaon's Bhondsi jail, Haryana's government approved Rs. 64-lakh funds for the installation of 17 new mobile phone jammers inside its premises.

    The jammers, to be installed in two months, would be able to block 4G signals.

    The move comes after prison officials seized several mobile phones from inmates and complaints of threat calls being made by Bhondsi prisoners.

    Dengue, Chikungunya, Malaria cases on the rise in Delhi

    Following the monsoon rains in Delhi, hospitals reported 300 cases of Dengue disease over the last week.

    945 dengue cases in the 2017 monsoon period have been reported so far, which is much higher compared to 644 in 2016 and 831 in 2015.

    Chikungunya and malaria are on the rise too; 339 chikungunya cases and 500 malaria cases were reported so far.

    Delhi-NCR: More rains predicted today

    Most places in Delhi-NCR witnessed a pleasant weather and light showers on 28 August with a maximum temperature of 35.2-degree Celsius. Meteorological department officials have predicted more rainfall and drizzle for some parts today. Humidity is likely to remain high for the next few days.
