Delhi running out of COVAXIN stock for 45-plus group: AAP

AAP MLA Atishi has said that Delhi has less than a day's stock of COVAXIN and five days' stock of Covishield left for people over 45 and they will have to temporarily shut down centers administering COVAXIN.
"Since the new strain of coronavirus is affecting young people, we urge the Centre to supply us vaccines for the 18-44 age group too," she added.

In total, Delhi has 2,93,000 vaccine doses left
Over 22 lakh people in Delhi have got themselves vaccinated after registering on CoWIN. For the 45-plus segment, Delhi had received a total of 44,94,250 doses, of which 42,00,690 have been utilized.
The national capital is left with nearly 2,93,000 vaccine doses, of which 58,000 are COVAXIN and 2,35,000 are Covishield.
Atishi said Delhi has four days of Covishield left for the 18-44 group.

Daily vaccination numbers in the city have dipped
Delhi is temporarily shutting down 50 vaccination centers administering COVAXIN to 45-plus after tomorrow. On May 16, 90,832 doses were administered.
"This number is slightly lower than usual, only because the gap between the first and second dose of Covishield has been increased to 12-16 weeks. Hence, the first doses administered accounted for 79,353 and the second for 11,479," Atishi said.

Delhi has administered over 45.81 lakh doses
In order to protect the people of Delhi, the Centre must supply vaccines at the earliest, Atishi said. Until now, 45,81,752 doses have been administered. As many as 10,57,950 people have been fully vaccinated while 35,23,802 have received the first dose to date.
Vaccine shortage
Centre has refused more vaccines for the 18-44 age group
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said that more vaccination centers will be closed down for the 18-44 age group if more COVID-19 vaccines are not received.
In a letter to the Delhi government on Sunday, the Centre informed to provide 3.83 lakh vaccine doses for those aged 45 and above but refused any more vaccines for the 18-44 age group in May.

Delhi has opened walk-in vaccination for 45-plus group
While issuing the vaccination bulletin, Atishi said, from Monday, Delhi started walk-in vaccination for 45-plus, healthcare, and frontline workers at 97 schools/centers as many people don't have smartphones and can't register online.
"Approximately, 57 lakh people in Delhi are above 45 years. Thus, a huge segment of the population cannot access the CoWIN platform and complete the registration process," Atishi said.
