    What's the story

The Delhi Police has arrested Mohammad Sameer alias Maya and his associate Bilal Gani alias Mallu—both recently turned 18—for allegedly murdering Amazon manager Harpreet Gill (36) in Delhi's Bhajanpura.

The accused allegedly shot Gill dead after road rage triggered a face-off in a narrow lane. Three of the suspects' accomplices are on the run.

The police said Sameer runs a gang with over a dozen members and was involved in at least four murders as a juvenile.

The police said that Gani, the main accused, Sameer, and three others, Sohail (23), Mohammad Junaid (23), and Adnan (19), were returning from a gathering when their two-wheelers brushed by Gill and Govind Singh's vehicle in a narrow lane.

An altercation over who would move out of the way snowballed as Junaid got down and slapped Singh.

Following this, Sameer shot both victims in the head and fled away.

Gill died on the spot, while Singh is in critical condition. The police arrested the accused based on CCTV footage and are checking Gani's criminal antecedents. He reportedly worked at a welding shop after being released from a juvenile observation home.

The police said that he was involved in a murder and robbery case in Bhajanpura last year.

Meanwhile, Sameer has become the center of news reports as tales of his group reportedly terrorizing Northeast Delhi surface.

    Insights

    Notorious gang leader's criminal past

Sameer boasts over 2,000 followers on Instagram, where he posts pictures with guns, alcohol, and expensive clothing.

Inspired by Vivek Oberoi's character Maya from the film Shootout at Lokhandwala, he named his gang and referred to himself as "Maya bhai."

His rise has surprised many in Northeast Delhi, as seasoned gangsters such as Irfan Chenu, Nasir, and Hashim Baba have prevented splinter gangs from cropping up for over a decade, The Times of India reported.
