Delhi: More than 60% students face exam stress

It's not even a fortnight since PM Narendra Modi had a talk with students of standard 9-12 about combating exam stress, when a survey threw up a surprising fact - more than 60% of students face exam stress.
It is the exam time of the year, and so the survey, conducted by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is rather saddening.

Steps being taken to reduce fear, says SCERT official
The state-wide survey revealed 61% of students in government schools in Delhi are battling exam stress. 65% of them in Gurgaon feared poor performance in exams.
Steps are being taken to reduce this fear at the district level, said Brahm Prakash, who led the survey.
It was conducted in 119 blocks of Gurgaon, where 33,660 students were given a form to fill up.

Further, 55% of students listened to music to beat stress
Modi had said in his February 16 address that 'you should do what you like even during exams', to achieve high results.
The survey results echoed the same, apparently.
Music plays an important role in releasing the pressure, as was found out in the survey. 55% of students listened to music, while others preferred to play or to read books to counter stress.
'Give them breaks'
Students asked about HIV, drugs, sexual harassment too
SCERT director Jyoti Choudhary asked parents to give breaks to students in between study sessions.
While 19% of the participants came from urban families, more than 80% were from rural areas.
The SCERT survey that covered adolescents was part of a bigger investigation. Apart from knowing about challenges they faced as students, they were also asked about HIV, drugs and sexual harassment.
