Delhi University: Admissions might not begin from May first week

A Delhi University official has said that it is highly unlikely that the admission process would begin from May first week.
Notably, some reports had earlier suggested that the university would be starting the process from May first week.
As per updates, the registration process will begin once all the preparations by the admission committee are completed and new changes are finalized.

Official meeting will finalize all the rules and regulations
Talking to the Indian Express, Rajeev Gupta, the admission coordinator, said, "The date of admission will be announced when our preparations will be complete. It is highly unlikely to start the admissions in the first week of May."
"We will soon have an official meet where all the rules and regulations will be announced and any confusions will be debunked," he added.
Quotas
Admissions for ECA and sports quota will begin early
As per reports, the admission process for ECA and sports quota might begin ahead of the release of cut-off lists.
Gupta said, "Their admissions have no relation with the cut-off list so why should we unnecessarily wait for the cut-off lists for these admissions?"
"They are dependent on trials so we will start those early, along with the registration process," he added.
Benefits
DU to introduce extra benefits for students from villages
The varsity is also planning to decide on extra benefits for the students coming from schools in villages.
Rasal Singh, a committee member, said, "We are planning to give some advantage to students from government schools and those who have done their schooling in villages. This is in addition to the benefit we are already giving to girls."
Cancellation
Students to get limited cancellation options from this year
Further, there are plans to introduce an online calculator to help students calculate their best-of-four percentage for the applied course.
Meanwhile, starting this year, the students will have limited chances for cancellations.
"If there are a total of six cut-offs, then five cancellations will be allowed. Last year, we saw that a single student cancelled as many as 20 times," Singh said.
Courses
282 seats increased across all DU colleges from 2019-20
The upcoming admission cycle will also see an increase of 282 seats across DU colleges in existing courses.
Moreover, 30 new courses will be introduced in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs under the choice-based credit system (CBCS) from the upcoming academic year 2019-20.
The committee has decided to launch 10 vocational courses to impart part-time certificates to the students.
