    Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days until January 12 for students up to Class 5 due to the cold weather conditions in north India.

    Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Delhi Education Minister Atishi wrote, "Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions for students from Nursery to Class 5."

    Delhi government's earlier order on extension of winter vacation

    In a previous order, the Delhi government extended the winter break till Wednesday (January 10) in all the government-aided and unaided recognized private schools of the national capital territory.

    However, the administration retracted it hours later, saying, "Order No.DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/18 dated: January 6, 2024, regarding extension of Winter Vacation, stands withdrawn with immediate effect."

    Holiday extended for students up to Class 8 in Noida

    Similarly, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration ordered all schools in Noida and Greater Noida on Saturday to declare holidays till January 14 for students up to Class 8 due to the dense fog and cold weather conditions.

    Issued by district Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar, the order stands applicable to all schools recognized by the state board, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), and others.

    Know about ongoing cold wave in north India

    While western Uttar Pradesh's minimum temperatures dropped to single-digit figures, the minimum temperature in Gautam Buddh Nagar is expected to hover between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius for the coming five days.

    In the national capital and its nearby areas, people continued to shiver on Sunday morning due to the cold wave conditions.

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted "Cold Day to Severe Cold Day" conditions over Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Delhi until Monday.
